Problem

At Storyblocks, we had a problem with data observability, discovery, and governance. Our analysts and engineers worked on multiple data projects that were either experimental or business-oriented. When analysts built models or queries that could help others achieve their needs, there was no space to share these new ideas. This lack of sharing knowledge led to wasted time and duplicated efforts.

To solve this problem, we needed to create a centralized hub or repository for tracking analytical best practices and sharing a space for showcasing work. With this centralized application, analysts could adopt new models their peers created and adhere to best practices on new standards we prioritize as a team for creating queries, reporting metrics, and writing documentation.

Solution

We launched diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives aimed at improving data observability, discovery, and governance to democratize data for technical and cross-functional business teams. The goal was to increase adoption of models by 10%. We created a centralized hub or repository for tracking analytical best practices and sharing a space for showcasing work.

The centralized application allowed analysts to adopt new models their peers created and adhere to best practices on new standards we prioritize as a team for creating queries, reporting metrics, and writing documentation. This helped us spread knowledge across the organization while saving time by avoiding duplicated efforts.
